Black Widow - BIOS/CMOS
Problem: CMOS resets every time Black Widow is turned Off
Solution: The CMOS battery needs to be replaced. You may be a message that the floppy disk failed or that a keyboard is not connected. Also if you continue without going to setup the Black Widow hangs on Initizing Timers.
Problem: Keyboard error
Solution: The battery on the main board that keeps the CMOS settings is probably bad. Replace and reset the BIOS (instuctions on www.arachnidinc.com - choose Operators and Distributors - Support - Black Widow - BIOS Setting. There are two different BIOS setups depending on the mother board type. Print out these documents as they are each two pages long).
Black Widow - Collecting Stats
Problem: Why, when connecting to a Black Widow, DartComm gets the response that it is a Galaxy?
Solution: This will happen when DartComm cannot understand what is being sent from the machine. Could be due to noise on the phone line, bad modem in the Black Widow, or actually another device answering instead of, or at the same time as the dart machine causing a collision of data.
Black Widow - Hard Drive
Problem: Black Widow when booting it says Non-System Disk or No System on Disk Error
Solution: The Hard Drive has lost its boot sector or the controller board (located on the main board) is bad. Solution is to replace the Hard Disk Drive, or try to reload the software on the Hard Disk Drive.
Black Widow - HotButton
Problem: When booting a Black Widow,it stops on Initializing HotButton.
Solution: If it fails to initialize the hotbotton, the process should still allow you to continue and start the game. If the CMOS is set incorrectly and you have a modem installed, it is possible for the process to see it as a modem and wait for a response from it. Make sure the modem is not set up as COM 1.
Black Widow - I/O Card
Problem: Where does the watch dog wire from the IOB card hook to main board?
Solution: Plug it into the row of jumpers located at the back right corner near the CPU socket. Plug into the one marked RST, located on the row closest to the CPU. Red goes on Pin 2. The empty pin socket goes to pin 1. The purpose of this wire is to reset the main board if communications does not happen in a short amount of time between the main board and IOB card, indicating that the system may be locked up, hopefully saving a service call.
Problem: If Fuse F1 on IOB has blown.
Solution: You can use the fuse in F2 to replace it temporarily. It is a 1 amp at 250 volts, slow blow, size 2AG.
Problem: What is the proper orientation of cables in the Black Widow?
Solution: For the door harness connector, the ribbon cable goes to connector on the I/O card closest to the front of case with red (Pin 1) facing the front of case. The parallel port on the motherboard that goes to the Zip drive and the I/O card is the connector closest to the back of the I/O card, with red on the ribbon cable (Pin 1), facing the back or CPU fan.
Black Widow - Modem
Problem: The Black Widow is not recognizing the Modem (in Test mode).
Solution: Reconfigure the Arachnet machine network, as it may reconfigure the modem.
Problem: How to force a call out using a keyboard to input the phone number.
Solution: To use the keyboard to input the phone number, first type R or L (right dart head or left), then T, D, O, or I (triple, double, outer, or inner), and the a two digit number for the score (use leading zero if needed).
Black Widow - Monitor
Problem: My monitor says SHARPER IMAGE on the board. What schematics do I use.
Solution: The SHARPER IMAGE uses the identical board that the ANALOG TELCO model uses. Use the TELCO ANALOG MONITOR MANUAL available from www.arachnidinc.com.
Black Widow - Other
Problem: How do you turn off the Cheater Dart Sound?
Solution: In Test - choose Setup - Games Setup - Cheater Dart Setting.
Problem: Needs a new Zip drive.
Solution: Iomega does not sell a new Zip drive with a parallel port any more. Check Iomega for a refurbished one. Also you may find them on Amazon.com used and refurbished.
Problem: Where do you place the throw line in relation to the dart machine?
Solution: From the center of the bullseye to floor, measure 117 5/8". This is equal to 96" horizontally from the face of the dart head.
Problem: Throw line Measurement
Solution: At an angle from the center of the Bullseye to the floor measure 117 5/8".
Black Widow - Software
Problem: How do you remove default Arachnid leagues from the Black Widow.
Solution: To remove any leagues currently on a Black Widow, send new leagues to the machine. The old leagues will be gone. In DartComm, make sure that in Settings - DartComm Settings, that the option Remove Old Files From Machines is checked.
DartComm - Automatic Modem
Problem: DartComm calls say zero tries in the morning.
Solution: This means that it called three times with no success. The "tries" starts at 3 and counts down. This usually will happen when the dart machine is not turned on overnight.
Problem: Auto calls are not going through, but manual calls are OK.
Solution: Check the machines to make sure that it is set on 1 ring during the phone calling times. It is best that the machine be set change to 1 ring 1/2 hour before Dartman for Windows makes it's phone call. Also check to see if it is possible that some other device is on line at the time it is calling.
DartComm - Machine Config
Problem: How do I to setup or modify Machine Configuration so I can send all the coin setting information as well as machine setup information to my dart machines.
Solution: Run DartComm and choose Settings - Machine Configuation. Here you can set the pricing on the Galaxy II and Black Widow machines as well as Happy Hour and other game settings. When making the phone call (or using the Port-a-Flash, G2Update, or Zip drive), check Send Machine Configuration.
DartComm - Manual Modem
Problem: Manual Modem recollect on location with 10 dart machines which causes a crash. "OUT OF MEMORY ERROR".
Solution: There is a problem with Dartcomm (versions 1.1.376 of Dartman for Windows)causing an "Out of Memory Error" when recollecting from a location with many Galaxy machinies on a network. There is a problem which could temporarily be worked around by collecting from a part of the network, and then collect from another group. It is believed that this only applies to Dartman for Windows running on a PC with Windows XP.
Dartman - Other
Problem: Duplicate Stats in Dartman for DOS or Dartman for Windows.
Solution: Leagues menu > Reset Stats > Duplicate Stats. Make sure all three boxes are checked, otherwise you will delete all your leagues stats.
Dartman for Windows - Backups
Problem: Error 430 when trying to do a backup.
Solution: 1.1.376 is the version of Dartman loaded. You will need to load Asset Manager to have the needed file loaded to prevent this error.
Dartman for Windows - Collecting Stats
Problem: What does "no new stats" mean?
Solution: No new stats were collected from the board possibly because they didn't play or they had already been collected from that location.
Problem: How do you share a location with another league operator?
Solution: Choose a separate password to share for those shared locations and enter it under on the location screen. If leagues are on different nights, make sure your calls are timely, otherwise if one operator collects your data, you will have to do a re-collect. Make sure that in DartComm, under Settings > DartComm Settings, you uncheck "Remove old files from the machines", otherwise, when you send your leagues it will remove the other operators leagues.
Problem: Can an operator card be re-read and will it duplicate stats?
Solution: As long as the operator card has not been re-formatted, it should be able to be read again. When processing, it checks for duplicates and throws away any that are already there. Checking in Communications > Edit Collected Data will let you know what is going to be loaded.
Dartman for Windows - Communications
Problem: How do you change the number of tries on an autocall.
Solution: Change it under Communications > Edit Phone List. This will return to the default of 3 if the Reset button is clicked.
Problem: Old locations removed from the Master list still show up in Edit Call Log
Solution: Generate a phone list and Clear All Calls.
Dartman for Windows - Handicaps
Problem: What type of handicaping is the most popular?
Solution: Spot Marks and Spot Points.
Problem: When doing Handicap Setup for Spot Darts, (not the table method), the players with zero stats did not show up on the list.
Solution: Exclude 0 stats has been selected. Players with zero stats affect the formula that calculates the Spot Darts for everyone and need to be excluded from the Handicap Setup. They will still be there for league play, just not showup on the handicap list.
Problem: Just starting handicaps - how low can the worst player be in X01 games?
Solution: In 301, choices are 121 and 181* - in 501 choices are 201 and 301* - in 701 choices are 281 and 421*. The items marked * are the default.
Dartman for Windows - HotButton
Problem: Dartman for Windows is loaded on two computers and each has different HotButton Configuation ID.
Solution: Dartman for Windows randomly generates the operator number when you load Dartman for Windows. You must pick one and use the same one on both computers. Make sure you keep the Configuation ID written down in a safe place.
Dartman for Windows - Other
Problem: Error says "missing PPD field."
Solution: An old league that was not active was made active. However the Dartman for Windows software was updated while it was inactive, therefore the data in the old league was not up to date. Shutting down and restarting Dartman for Windows will update the database.
Problem: How do you save player information to the History File?
Solution: Choose your league. Go to the Player menu > History File. Select Update and Keep, and then choose OK. Do this for every league once the league is done and before you delete the league. Player information will then be saved for using during the first week of a new league that will be using handicapping.
Problem: There are files in my data directory that look like a random number + .dbf and .fpt. Can these be deleted?
Solution: These are temporary files used at the start of Dartman for Windows. They are no longer needed once Dartman is up and running. New files will be created as new ones are needed. You may delete these files from the data directory if you feel comfortable doing so (a backup should be made first, just in case a file that is needed is deleted by accident). They will not hurt anything by being there.
Dartman for Windows - Prepare Stat Card
Problem: We received a Stat Card Programming board but it won't fit in our new computer.
Solution: The computer must have an ISA slot. We do not have a PCI or other version of the Team and Operator Card programming board.
Problem: Stat Card Reader is installed, but does not work.
Solution: Windows likes to assign addresses to all the hardware in the computer. Windows cannot detect our Stat Card Reader, so it can assign addresses right on top of the addresses that we use (248, 249, and 24A hex). It is possible that there is a conflict with the Sound Card (or a network card) and the Stat Card. You may find the sound card set to address 240. Change the sound card to another address such as 220 and it should fix the problem.
Problem: What is the name of the slot you need in the computer for the Stat Card Reader?
Solution: ISA slot.
Dartman for Windows - Reports
Problem: Player information does not show on the Galaxy II from new league.
Solution: You must print a Player Report and Team Report to your screen (minimum) after collecting the first time before sending information to the machines so Dartman for Windows will know what format to send.
Problem: A gray background is on reports on the screen or on paper.
Solution: Active Reports gets its background colors from the windows appearance settings for window text in an active window. These colors also print out on a printed report. To fix this, do the following:
- Go to the control panel and open the display settings
- Select the appearance tab.
- Select the Window text item and change the color to white
- Click Apply and Ok.
|
Problem: Can the team "last match details" be displayed on the dartboard?
Solution: No, the last match details will not show on the dart board screen.
Problem: I received a "Run-Time error 5005 can't find file" when printing reports.
Solution: The header for a report is in a file called header.rtf and is located in C:\Program Files\Dartman. If the header file is missing, you will get this error. In the case where Dartman just can not find the file, try restarting Dartman to fix the problem.
Problem: I received a "missing a variable" when printing a report from old league
Solution: If a league is not active and software is updated, you may get this error until the league information is brought up to date. To do this make the league active and restart Dartman for Windows to correct the database for the missing variable.
Problem: How do you make the print larger on reports?
Solution: Choose Configuration and uncheck "small print". You may also need to change to landscape if all the characters do not fit on the page.
Problem: Player report is not showing on Galaxy II.
Solution: The standings file was 251,102 bytes in size (it shows the size when it generates the file under View - Call Log - Preparing League Files), way to big for the Galaxy II. The player report chosen was Details instead of Totals. After switching to Totals, the files size was 3K in size and transferred sucessfully. Dartman remembers the last Player Report ran (even if only for a temporary situation where you want a report to help figure out a problem area), so if you run a special report, remember to go back and switch the report to what you want to show on the machines.
Problem: I received a Runtime Error 713 (application or object defined error) when printing reports.
Solution: The file actrpt.dll is missing from C:\Program Files\Common\Arachnid. Remove and reinstall Dartman after making a backup.
Problem: Most Improved Players not showing on the paper reports, but they show on the G II's report screen.
Solution: "Combine Player Stats" was turned on, which is supposed to turn the MIP feature off. However, we found that the reports going to the G II do have the MIP included.
Dartman for Windows - Setting Up Leagues
Problem: Reports for a new league are not going to the Galaxy II correctly.
Solution: When you run a new league, you must run a Player Standing and Team Report, even if only to the screen. DMW will remember how this report was set up after doing this.
Problem: When using two divisions in the same league, can the games be different in each division?
Solution: Not with G2 and BW. They must play the same games.
Problem: How can you use floating subs?
Solution: Subs have to be tied to a team (which can be a team named SUBS credted when a sub enters their name at the dart machine). Players can enter their name at the dart board manually or with a HotButton and play on more than one team.
Problem: If you need a BYE, do you add another team named BYE?
Solution: No. Go to TEAM > DIVISION SETUP and press F6 to add a BYE. It adds it in a special way so that the end of season split will work properly and will not printout a team called BYE on your weekly reports.
Problem: Printing schedule with two divisions. Division A has a header, division B does not.
Solution: The way it prints, it thinks it is one report, therefore only one header.
Dartman for Windows - WinStat
Problem: When trying to save a template using WinStat, an error message says that "the file is in use".
Solution: The file, template.mdb, in the WinStat folder is read only. Find the file under C:\Program Files\Dartman\WinStat. Right click on the file template.mdb and remove the check mark for read only.
Problem: How can I change or modify the player order?
Solution: First choose the League you need. The choose Match Setup > Launch Winstat > Open League List > Choose League > Player Order Tab. Details are on page 3.11 of the current Dartman for Windows manual.
Problem: Could not insert template for a new league.
Solution: It would not save and keep the playing order. The player icons would not show up even though there were numbers in the chart from the imported template. In League Modify the player number was set to zero.
Dartman for Windows - Working With Stats
Problem: What do I need to do at the end of a league so the PPD and MPR will be available for handicap in the future?
Solution: Update History File by going to the Player Menu > History File. Choose Update and Keep. Stats from this league will now be available for next seasons handicapped league.
Problem: How do you get rid of duplicate stats?
Solution: Go to the League Menu and choose Reset Stats. Make sure that Duplicates Only is check as well as Team And Player. This will get rid of duplicate stats if they were loaded into the league twice.
Problem: How do you add data manually for a player?
Solution: One way is to go to the Player Menu and choose Browse Player Stats. When you are on the first screen, press F5, View Weekly Stats. Find the player name and press F7 (this will append a blank line) and enter everything manually. This screen is where all the raw stats are and any editing that is needed can be done here. Another method is Team > Update Stats where you can update team and player stats.
Problem: Trying to change a name in Browse Player Stats and it would not work.
Solution: You have to press F5, View Weekly Stats, after getting into Browse Player Stats to be able to edit data.
Problem: Trying to delete stats in Browse Player (or Team) Stats > F5 - View Weekly Stats area, and the marked stats did not delete.
Solution: Stats should be deleted when backing out to the main menu. If you find that it does not delete the stats, go back into View Weekly Stats and find Table > Remove Deleted Records (top right of screen). The Stats that you have marked will be gone.
Problem: Had data loaded in three times. Why?
Solution: Data was loaded into the league and then more stats were collected. That data was loaded into the league and more collections were done. The part that was not done was the Processing Collected Data after each collection, therefore, the same data was in the temp buffer and was loaded each time.
Problem: How can you view the Player (or Team) weekly stats for a league?
Solution: Choose the league, go to the Player (or Team) menu and choose Browse Player (or Team) Stats. You can sort by team or player. When the first screen comes up (accumulated stats for all weeks), press F5 and you will see all of the raw data that makes up your reports. You can edit on this screen if you need to. At this point, if you only want to look at one specific weeks data, press F2 and tell it what week number you want to look at, and you will see just that data. Week 0 (zero) is all weeks.
Problem: How do I change a player name?
Solution: First, make sure the player is in the league spelled correctly (Player > Modify or Player Add). Select Browse Player Stats and press F5 (weekly stats). Change the wrong player entry(s) to correct the player entry(s). Move off of the last entry before exiting or the changes will not be saved.
G2Update - Other
Problem: I loaded the new Galaxy II software using G2Update, but the machine still has the old version.
Solution: The Galaxy II software that came on your CD has to be saved to your hard drive or floppy, depending on how you use G2Update, before the new version of machine software is available. G2Update will not take it direct from the CD.
Galaxy - Darthead
Problem: Bullseye is not scoring once in awhile.
Solution: Check that the missed dart area Web is not touching the spider. ANY pressure will cause the spokes of the spider to transfer the pressure first to the bullseye, causing it not to move freely in and out. If bad enough, it will cause other segments to lock as well. You should be able to take a piece of paper between the black Web and the yellow Spider all the way around the dart head without binding. If it binds, take the dart head out and trim the inside of the hole of the Web with a paint scraper.
Galaxy - Main Board
Problem: How do you clear credits on the Galaxy?
Solution: As it powers up, there is a message that says "Press Select To Clear Credits". It will ask you to press Enter to confirm.
Problem: Can only find a Dallas replacement with 70ns. Will this work?
Solution: Galaxy specifies a 90ns Dallas Ram chip. A faster speed (70ns) should be ok to use.
Problem: How do you clear credits on the Galaxy?
Solution: As it powers up, there is a message that says "Press Select To Clear Credits". It will ask you to press Enter to confirm.
Galaxy - Monitor
Problem: Monitor symptoms are a collapsing screen, and lines.
Solution: Change out C308, C309, C110, and C312 components for this problem.
Problem: What is the value of the vertical hold pot in the Arachnid (black case) monitor.
Solution: 50k ohm - we do not carry.
Galaxy - Other
Problem: Trying to write Galaxy machine settings to Operator Card, and it will not work. It asks for a Spider Writer card.
Solution: The Spider Writer card is used for screens and machine settings and options, not an operator card. To make a Spider Writer card out of an operator card, you must store at least one Spider screen (even a blank one will do) to the card. Then you will be allowed to save machine settings from the Galaxy.
Problem: Team and operator cards - which is which if they do not have labels.
Solution: The new ones we sell work for both. With the old ones, the 4 K bit (65404AEE) card is the team card and the 64 k bit (65464AEE) card is the operator card. Numbers are in the black area. Newer cards may not have the numbers mentioned. If you are still unsure about if it is an operator card, try to program it as an operator card. If it does, it is. An operator card can be used as either a team card or an operator card.
Problem: What version of Eprom in the Galaxy is needed to do handicapping with PPD and MPR?
Solution: The Eprom version must be 7.04.
Problem: Shipping weight of Galaxy
Solution: 230lbs
Galaxy - Smart Target
Problem: What version is correct for the 40 pin IC on the Smart Target?
Solution: On the Smart Target the version should be either 4.2 or 4.3. On the main board (it's the same IC in U14) the version can be as low as 1.1.
Galaxy - Software
Problem: When the players are playing 701 double in/double out, the game ends on a Bust.
Solution: The eprom is a 7.02 where it was possible to have a problem when someone played a speed game and the timer went to the 10 minute limit. Then double out games would end on a BUST. Upgrade to 7.04. A temporary fix is to start a speed game and back out by pressing Select. This would fix it until someone played a speed game to the 10 minute limit again.
Problem: How do you turn on Auto Player Change.
Solution: Go to Test menu > Setup Mode > Game Setup Mode > Player Change Setup.

|
Problem: Lights not getting bright (or dim).
Solution: Check the dimmer board under the power supply cabinet for a bad triac (12 Amp) or a bad diode (1N4007).
Problem: Dimmer board has bad triac. Cannot cross the part after checking the schematic from our web site.
Solution: Do you have older style Galaxy machines. You can use the 10 amp triac that we used there (SC146D).
Problem: Part numbers for the triac, Q1, on the dimmer board.
| Solution: Our partnumber is 42082 and is rated at 12 amps. The cross reference numbers are:
Motorola MAC12M
Motorola MAC12SN
Motorola MAC12HCM
Any Vendor 2N6348A
Any Vendor 2N6349A
Any Vendor 2N6344A |
Problem: What are the two wires for on the dimmer board?
Solution: The fuse holder. Older dimmer boards had the fuse clips on the board. We have changed the design so the fuse can be changed from the outside of the machine. The fuse is 3.15 amp slow blow. Kit for fuse holder only is p/n 42064. Kit with dimmer board plus fuse holder is p/n 42138.
Galaxy II - Main Board
Problem: Do you have a refurbished board available for sale to keep around as a spare?
Solution: Yes, Arachnid part # 42062.
Galaxy II - Monitor
Problem: Needed cross reference for parts in DaWoo monitor.
Solution: DaWoo technical support number is 800-245-9870.

Problem: Can you hook up a second monitor?
Solution: You can get a video splitter cable from www.cyberguys.com and run a second monitor outside the machine. They have low loss video extension cables as well.
Galaxy II - Other
Problem: What is the wiring hookup for a mechanical coin meter.
Solution: A 5 volt coin meter is required. The red wire is for +5 volts and the white w/black strip is the wire that switches to ground to activate the meter.
Problem: Why isn't there a slot for a team card on the Galaxy II?
Solution: The Galaxy II receives all of the league information via modem, Port-a-Flash, or laptop so all the league information is available from a menu for league play.
Problem: How many different games does the Galaxy II play?
Solution: In October 2005, 33=17 X01 games + 7 Cricket Games + 9 "Other" Games
Galaxy II - Port-a-Flash
Problem: Galaxy II will not update from the Port-a-Flash.
Solution: The version of software was not high enough to recognize the Port-A-Flash. The machine must have at least the 9 hole Golf game on it (version 2623).
Galaxy II - Software
Problem: Has the randomess problem of Wild Card Cricket been solved?
Solution: Yes, with the new release - 3074.
Problem: Can you have free play for happy hour?
Solution: Yes, on the Galaxy II, set credits to zero.
Problem: How to update the Galaxy II w/o Golf since you can not use the Port-a-Flash.
Solution: Use G2Update, machine to machine, or modem.
Problem: If you want teams fees collected, do all leagues have to use that feature.
Solution: If you do not want a league to collect fees, you can set that league to zero.
Problem: What is the best way to update software?
Solution: Use the Port-a-Flash, as long as the Galaxy II has Golf (build 2623).
Galaxy II - Wire Harness
Problem: G2 missing coins
Solution: Clean connectors and check resistance on the ground wire to the coin door. It should be less than a 1/2 ohm from the main board ground to the coin door ground at the coin switch. Usually a high resistance is from J1 being dirty. Clean with isoproply alcohol (99%) and a toothbrush.
Problem: Board resets sometimes when a $1 or $5 is inserted.
Solution: Clean J1. Also may need to check for a high resistance connection in the wire harness, but most of the time it is oxidation on the J1 connector on the main board.
Problem: The three selection buttons proper configuration.
| Solution: Up Button should be: (all directions as if you were facing the machine)
- 2 Blue wires on the left connector
- the White/orange stripe on the right
- 2 Black/Red stripe on the back
- the White/yellow stripe on the top back
Down Button should be: (all directions as if you were facing the machine)
- 2 Blue wires on the left connector
- the Purple wire on the right
- 2 Black/Red stripe on the back
- the Brown wire on the top back
Enter Button should be: (all directions as if you were facing the machine)
- 1 Blue wire on the left connector
- yellow stripe on the right
- 2 Black/Red stripe on the back

Problem: Where to get lamps for the 5000
Solution: The CM7373 lamp is available from www.mouser.com .
Problem: 6300 with no picture
Solution: 12 volts to the monitor could be low. If C9 on the power supply is bad, it may measure 5 volts to 9 volts. Replace C9 on the power supply. We use regular NTSC video, so a check to see if the main board is putting out video could be done with a VCR or TV with a video input.
Problem: Converting a 6000 to Super Spider, but the coin up is not right.
Solution: The P/N 26834 conversion is only from a 6200 or a 6300 as the machine needs the Coin Credit Card. Otherwise it will take two coins to get one credit. Other than than the conversion will work.
